Aliou Cissé makes unbeaten run start with Angola

Aliou Cissé has made a flying start to his tenure as Angola head coach, remaining unbeaten in his first four matches in charge of the Palancas Negras.

The Senegalese tactician, who was appointed in April 2026, has quickly brought positive results to the Angolan national team, recording two wins and two draws since taking over.

Cissé began his reign with a 1–1 draw against Mauritania in June before guiding Angola to an emphatic 3–0 victory over the Central African Republic during the same international window.

The former Senegal coach then carried that unbeaten momentum into Angola’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Angola opened their qualifying campaign with a difficult trip to Cairo to face Egypt on September 25. Cissé’s side produced a disciplined defensive display to hold the Pharaohs to a goalless draw and return home with a valuable point.

The Palancas Negras followed that result with another impressive performance on October 6, defeating Malawi 3–1 at home to secure their second victory under Cissé.

After four games, Cissé has therefore overseen two wins and two draws, with Angola scoring seven goals and conceding just two.

The results have provided an encouraging early indication of what could develop under the experienced Senegalese coach, who guided Senegal to the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2022.

Cissé will now be looking to maintain Angola’s strong start as the team continues its quest for a place at the 2027 AFCON tournament.

For now, his opening four games have produced an unbeaten record and given the Palancas Negras renewed optimism under their new head coach.
