Cape Verde has not given up its fight after being eliminated from the 2014 World Cup playoffs in favor of Tunisia due to the use of the suspended player Fernando Varela. The Cape Verde national team, known as the Blue Sharks, has decided to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the hope of overturning FIFA’s sanction that deprived them of the African qualifying playoffs.
Despite FIFA’s decision to eliminate Cape Verde for fielding Varela, who was suspended, in the crucial match against Tunisia, the Blue Sharks are dissatisfied. The Cape Verdean Football Federation has taken the case to CAS, seeking a favorable outcome. This appeal comes at a time when the playoffs are approaching the return leg stage, with Tunisia scheduled to play against Cameroon on November 17 after a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Radès.
Although Cape Verde’s elimination was confirmed on appeal earlier in the month, the date of the CAS hearing has not yet been set, as reported by AFP.
