Mikel Arteta signs new Arsenal contract until 2030

Mikel Arteta has signed a new four-year contract with Arsenal, extending his time as manager at the Emirates Stadium until 2030.

The 44-year-old Spaniard’s previous agreement was due to expire at the end of the season, but the new deal ensures he will continue a tenure that began when he was appointed in December 2019.

Arteta has overseen a major transformation at Arsenal, leading the club to the Premier League title last season after three successive second-place finishes. During his time in charge, he has also guided the Gunners to FA Cup success and three Community Shield victories.

Arsenal also reached the Champions League final last season for only the second time in their history, although they were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain.

“This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue,” Arteta said.

“We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”

Arteta previously worked as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City and is already the longest-serving manager in England’s top four divisions.

Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick said the club’s ambition was to create a “winning era” with Arteta at the helm. He also praised the manager’s belief and his understanding of what was needed to develop a project capable of delivering sustained success.

The new contract is reported to represent a substantial increase on Arteta’s previous £10 million annual salary. Bonuses could further increase his total earnings.

Arsenal have also confirmed that members of Arteta’s coaching staff have agreed new four-year contracts.

Club co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke said they were “so proud” of what had been achieved since Arteta returned to Arsenal in 2019.

They added that they were looking forward to creating further memories in the years ahead.

Arteta’s new agreement could keep him at Arsenal for more than a decade. His focus will now be on extending the success achieved by the Premier League champions and building on the progress made during his time in charge.
