Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise says his side will take a psychological advantage into Saturday’s MTN8 Final against Orlando Pirates after recently lifting a trophy.
The 28-year-old believes that success has strengthened Sundowns’ position ahead of the meeting, while the club’s reputation and winning mentality will also play a part.
“Heading into this game, I think we do have some sort of advantage and upper hand because we recently won a trophy,” Mkhulise said.
He added that Sundowns’ status meant they would not approach any match as the underdogs, regardless of the opposition.
“Mamelodi Sundowns will never be underdogs, so that alone will always give us an edge against our opponents. We have the best leadership, coaches and players in the club, so we will always have an advantage.”
Mkhulise’s comments reflect the confidence within the Sundowns camp as they seek more silverware against one of their biggest rivals.
Orlando Pirates will attempt to prevent them from completing that objective and claim the trophy themselves.
The final will kick off at 18h00 on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
