Hernandez Hernandez set to referee Barcelona v Real Madrid Clasico for second successive time

Hernandez Hernandez has reportedly been selected to referee the next Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Radio Marca says the refereeing committee of La Liga has decided to appoint the Spanish official for the fixture, which will be played on 25 October as part of the 10th round of the Spanish league season.

It will be the second consecutive Clasico overseen by Hernandez Hernandez. He was in charge of the second meeting between the sides last season, when Barcelona won 2-0.

That appointment came more than 5 years after the previous Clasico he had refereed. His penultimate match between Barcelona and Real Madrid was in 2019, when the fixture ended in a goalless draw.

The October meeting is expected to be the sixth Clasico of Hernandez Hernandez’s refereeing career.

His first came during the 2015-2016 season, when he took charge of the 31st round fixture. Real Madrid won that match 2-1.

Hernandez Hernandez then refereed the teams’ meeting in the 33rd round of the 2016-2017 season, with Barcelona claiming a 3-2 victory.

He was appointed for the 36th round Clasico in 2017-2018, which finished 2-2.

The official’s next Clasico came during the 2019-2020 season. That match ended without a goal before he returned to oversee last season’s fixture, which Barcelona won 2-0 and used to secure the Spanish league title.
