Michael Carrick faces uncertainty over the fitness of Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui as Manchester United prepare to resume their season against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
United’s defensive depth has been affected by injuries picked up during the international break, with both players being assessed before the Premier League fixture.
Dorgu and Mazraoui are the only senior, experienced options available to cover at left-back when Luke Shaw is unavailable. Dorgu was forced off while representing Denmark against Wales after appearing to suffer a non-contact injury.
The defender then left the Denmark camp and returned to Manchester, where he is undergoing further medical assessments. His problem is reportedly a hamstring injury, which would be a concern for United because a similar issue kept him out for almost three months during the 2025/2026 season.
Mazraoui suffered his injury in a collision while playing for Morocco against Lesotho in an African Cup of Nations qualifier last Tuesday. He was later ruled out of Morocco’s friendly against Mali on Sunday.
United are still waiting for more information about the seriousness of Mazraoui’s injury. The Morocco defender has made five appearances for United in all competitions this season, starting three of those matches.
Other United fitness concerns
Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo are also being monitored after both played in United’s draw with Fulham before withdrawing from England duty.
There was more encouraging news regarding Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt, who are both edging closer to returns. However, neither player has featured for United this season.
Benjamin Sesko remains a doubt for Saturday’s meeting with Tottenham.
Carrick must therefore assess the condition of several players before finalising his plans for United’s return to action, with the club awaiting clarity on Dorgu and Mazraoui in particular.
