Mohamed Adama Sarr believes Senegal’s national team should now be the destination that eligible dual-national players actively pursue as a generational transition begins under coach Patrick Vieira.
The former AC Milan player, who moved to Europe at a young age, made the comments in an exclusive interview with Africafoot. The Senegalese Football Federation has a database of players around the world as it seeks to identify the strongest candidates for the African champions’ project.
Senegal, described as double Africa champions in 2022 and 2025, have already attracted several dual nationals who have become important members of the squad. Kalidou Koulibaly, Moussa Niakhate, Mamadou Sarr, Pape Gueye, Habib Diarra, Iliman Ndiaye, Edouard Mendy and Assane Diao are among those to have joined the team.
Sarr points to Ibrahim Mbaye as an example of the direction Senegal can take. The 17-year-old received his first call-up in November 2025 and made his debut against Brazil on 15 November. Three days later, in his second appearance, he scored in an 8-0 friendly victory over Kenya.
Mbaye became the youngest goalscorer in Senegal’s history, finding the net at the age of 17 years, nine months and 25 days. He has continued to develop with the national team and became a champion at 17 in 2025.
