Getafe are completing the final details of a deal to sign former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal on a free transfer, club president Angel Torres has confirmed.
Torres said on Tuesday that the Spanish right-back had successfully completed his medical, leaving only an agreement between Getafe and La Liga to be reached before the move can be finalised.
Speaking outside the club’s offices about Carvajal’s proposed arrival, Torres said: “We are working on it. The manager asked me for a winger and we have not been able to find one, so we will see whether he can cover the roles of both full-back and winger.”
He later told DAZN, in comments reported by Argentine website Infobae: “If I can reach an agreement with La Liga, he will most likely join us.”
The 34-year-old has been without a club since making his final appearance for Real Madrid on 23 May, bringing to an end a 23-season association with the club. That included 13 seasons with the first team, during which he made his mark as one of the key players to wear the Madrid shirt.
Carvajal left Real Madrid having won 27 trophies, including six Champions League titles. He is now set to join the south Madrid club managed by Jose Bordalas, with Getafe due to compete in the Conference League.
A move to Getafe would represent the next stage of Carvajal’s career after his long spell at Real Madrid, although the transfer remains dependent on the club reaching agreement with La Liga.
Torres’ comments indicate that the main sporting and administrative details have been settled, with the league agreement the final outstanding step before Carvajal can officially become a Getafe player.
