Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner says confidence and concentration helped him keep a clean sheet on his first official appearance for the club.
The 28-year-old joined the Glamour Boys on a free transfer from Sekhukhune United before the resumption of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
However, Leaner initially had to wait for his opportunity, with Brandon Petersen starting ahead of him. Petersen’s injury then opened the door for Leaner, who had joined Kaizer Chiefs during pre-season.
He made his debut against Lamontville Golden Arrows and produced several important saves as the match ended 0-0.
Speaking to the club’s website, Leaner said the appearance fulfilled a long-held ambition.
“It was really exciting for me to play my first game because it has always been a dream for me to play for Kaizer Chiefs, one of the biggest teams in South Africa,” he said.
Leaner credited his mindset for helping him perform under pressure.
“I was able to make those saves because I went into the game with confidence and was very focused, which made me ready for action,” he added.
The goalkeeper also said he believed his career at Kaizer Chiefs could develop positively.
“I see a bright future for myself where I can become a better goalkeeper in the future and achieve great things in my career,” he said.
Kaizer Chiefs will return to action against Stellenbosch FC at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, 13 October.
The match will begin at 19:30.
