Lyon consider permanent move for Belgian-Moroccan striker Lois Openda
Lyon could make Lois Openda’s loan move permanent at the end of the season, despite the Belgian-Moroccan striker joining the French club without a purchase option.
Openda, 26, moved to Lyon on a season-long loan from Juventus after struggling to establish himself in Turin. Lyon paid around €3 million for the loan, with no buy clause included in the agreement.
However, according to reports, a permanent transfer remains a realistic possibility if Openda impresses and Lyon achieve their sporting objectives this season.
Openda’s return to France comes just one year after his move to Juventus. The striker previously made a name for himself in Ligue 1 during his time with RC Lens before earning his move to Italy.
His start at Lyon has been steady rather than spectacular, with two goals and one assist in nine appearances so far.
Lyon, however, are enjoying a strong campaign and currently sit second in Ligue 1, just two points behind leaders AS Monaco.
With Champions League qualification potentially opening the door to a permanent deal, Openda’s performances over the remainder of the season could play a major role in determining whether his stay at the Groupama Stadium extends beyond his current loan spell.
