Saudi club Al-Fateh are awaiting official approval to announce the appointment of Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami as their new head coach, with the 55-year-old set to replace Saudi tactician Khalid Al-Atwi.

Sellami is expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to begin work with the Al-Ahsa-based club after Al-Fateh and Al-Atwi reached a mutual agreement to end their contractual relationship.

Al-Fateh appointed Al-Atwi on July 21, although the club did not disclose the length of his contract at the time. His departure has now paved the way for Sellami to take charge of the first team, pending the necessary formal approvals.

Sellami brings extensive coaching experience to the Saudi club, having worked with several Moroccan teams and national youth sides during a managerial career that began in 2010.

He started out as an assistant with the Moroccan national team before taking charge of Hassania Agadir, FUS Rabat and Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi.

The Moroccan coach later returned to the national-team setup, where he worked with the country’s Under-17 and Under-20 teams, gaining further experience in youth development.

Sellami subsequently returned to club football, including another spell with Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi, before coaching FUS Rabat and Raja Casablanca.

His potential move to Al-Fateh would represent another major step in his coaching career, with the Moroccan now set to take on a new challenge in Saudi football.

Al-Fateh are currently working to complete the administrative procedures required before officially unveiling Sellami, with the coach expected to take charge once the approvals are secured.
