Moroka Swallows supporters have appealed to CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe to help them regain the club’s status after it was sold amid severe financial difficulties.
The Dube Birds, who were being run by chairman David Mogashoa, transferred their PSL status to Marumo Gallants owner Abram Sello. The deal was approved by the PSL in 2024.
Speaking to KickOff’s Supporters Forum, veteran Swallows fan Jeff Duma said supporters wanted Motsepe to intervene by buying the club’s certificate back from Mogashoa.
“That’s our wish as Moroka Swallows supporters. We plead with Mr Patrice Motsepe to buy us the status of the club from Mr Mogashoa; we really need our team back,” said Duma.
“Motsepe, please help! We don’t have a home anymore. Sesaba ondinga sithebeni. We have even run out of tears. We want our home.
“All we’ve been doing is crying and crying because we have no place to call home.”
Duma said supporters had formed a committee to handle the matter and stressed that a club with Swallows’ history should not simply disappear.
“We have selected a committee of Swallows supporters, and they are busy dealing with the whole thing. A team with such a long history can’t vanish just like that. Just think about all the rich history of the club disappearing just like that,” he added.
He also recalled an incident in which his devotion to Swallows nearly cost him his life.
“I was at the Rand Stadium one night, travelling on foot after watching Swallows. Thugs stabbed me, demanding money. I was wearing my full Swallows attire. I spent six months at Baragwanath Hospital. But Swallows is my wife; I can’t divorce my wife,” said Duma.
Despite the club’s current circumstances, he continues to attend matches and remains visibly loyal to Swallows.
“I still go to stadiums even today to watch other teams play, but I make sure I’m in my Swallows colours.”
Duma urged Motsepe to find a way to bring the club back, even if its registration had to be placed under the name of one of the CAF president’s children.
“So, please, Mr Motsepe, you can even register our club under one of your children’s names, it’s fine,” he pleaded.
