Moroccan tactician Jamal Sellami set for Al-Fateh coaching job
Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami is reportedly on the verge of being appointed as the new head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Fateh following the team’s disappointing start to the 2026/27 Saudi Pro League campaign.
According to reports, Al-Fateh have identified Sellami as the preferred candidate to replace Khaled Al-Atwi, with the club’s management now working towards finalising an agreement with the experienced Moroccan tactician.
Al-Fateh have endured a difficult opening to the season and remain without a victory after their first seven league matches. They have managed three draws and suffered four defeats, leaving the club searching for a solution to reverse their poor run of form.
The club’s decision to make a change in the technical area comes as Al-Fateh look to inject fresh ideas and greater consistency into their campaign. Sellami’s experience at both club and international level is believed to have made him an attractive option for the Saudi side.
Sellami most recently served as head coach of the Jordan national team, but his tenure came to an end following Jordan’s elimination from the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Moroccan coach has built a reputation through his work in African football, particularly during his time with Raja Casablanca. He also previously managed Morocco’s U17 and U20 national teams, giving him experience working with players at different levels of the game.
His name was also linked with Egyptian giants Zamalek earlier this season. However, reports from the Moroccan media claimed that Sellami turned down an approach from the Cairo-based club.
A move to Al-Fateh would provide Sellami with an opportunity to return to club football and test himself in the Saudi Pro League, where several high-profile coaches and players are currently competing.
Should the appointment be completed, Sellami will have little time to settle in, with Al-Fateh facing a difficult fixture against Al-Ahli when the Saudi league resumes.
Al-Ahli enter the encounter as the reigning Asian champions, making the fixture a challenging first assignment for Sellami if he takes charge in time.
The Al-Fateh hierarchy will hope the Moroccan can quickly stabilise the team, improve their results and guide the club away from the difficulties that have characterised the opening weeks of the season.
