Algeria winger Riyad Mahrez is set to join Qatari side Al Shamal after spending several months without a club.
The former Manchester City and Al Ahli player is expected to complete his move to the Qatar Stars League runners-up after arriving in Doha on Monday.
Al Shamal president confirmed that the 34-year-old will undergo a medical examination before signing his contract.
“We are waiting for Riyad Mahrez to undergo his medical examination, in preparation for the signing of contracts and the official announcement of his arrival at the team in the coming hours,” he said.
Mahrez is expected to have his medical at Aspetar, Qatar’s specialist sports medicine hospital, before completing the move.
However, the official announcement is not expected immediately.
According to reports, Al Shamal plan to formally unveil the Algeria international at a press conference at the club’s headquarters on Thursday.
Mahrez, who has won 119 caps for Algeria, will return to competitive football after becoming a free agent following his departure from Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.
