Hussein Ammouta receives Al Ahly assurance ahead of Capital Cup campaign
Al Ahly have reportedly told Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta that his results in the Egypt Capital Cup will not be used to assess his future with the Egyptian giants.
The decision comes ahead of Al Ahly’s trip to face Petrojet in the competition, with the club preparing for a busy period that also includes an important Egyptian Premier League meeting with Zamalek.
According to Egyptian outlet Al-Watan Sport, media personality Ahmed Shobeir revealed that Al Ahly’s management has informed Ammouta that the outcome of the Capital Cup will have no bearing on his position, whether the team wins or loses the tournament.
Capital Cup being used for preparation
The report says Al Ahly view the competition primarily as an opportunity to prepare their squad for more important fixtures later in the season.
The club’s focus is reportedly on giving players competitive minutes and ensuring the squad is ready for upcoming Egyptian Premier League and Confederation Cup matches.
Shobeir explained the club’s position on his programme “With Shobeir”, broadcast on On Sport FM.
“Al-Ahly told Hussein Ammouta that he will not be held accountable for the Cairo Cup tournament, whether he wins or loses, whether he wins the tournament or loses it, he will not be held accountable for its results, and it will not affect his fate with the team. The tournament will prepare the players for the upcoming competitions, whether the Premier League or the Confederation Cup.”
Ammouta prepares for Petrojet test
The decision gives Ammouta the opportunity to use the Capital Cup fixture to assess his squad without the immediate pressure of results determining his position.
Al Ahly’s match against Petrojet comes before their anticipated league clash with Zamalek in the sixth round of the 2026/27 Egyptian Premier League season.
The Capital Cup therefore provides Ammouta with an opportunity to give playing time to members of the squad while working on preparations for the domestic league and continental commitments.
