France youth international Obed Nkambadio linked with DR Congo switch
France youth international Obed Nkambadio has emerged as a potential target for DR Congo, although the Paris FC goalkeeper has yet to make a decision over his international future.
Nkambadio, 23, has represented France from youth level through to the Under-21s and was also part of the French squad at the 2024 Olympic Games.
However, his situation at club level has raised questions about his prospects with the French national team and opened speculation over a possible switch of allegiance to the African nation.
Nkambadio loses starting place at Paris FC
The goalkeeper lost his place as Paris FC’s first choice last season to former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
Despite a change in management during the summer, Trapp has retained the starting role under new head coach Liam Rosenior, leaving Nkambadio outside the club’s regular starting XI.
That lack of playing time has contributed to speculation over whether the goalkeeper could consider representing DR Congo at senior international level.
No talks with DR Congo yet
Nkambadio is eligible to represent DR Congo through his family background, but there is currently no indication that he has committed his international future to the Leopards.
According to Foot Mercato, the goalkeeper has not held talks with DR Congo head coach Sébastien Desabre, while there have also been no discussions between his representatives and officials of the Congolese football federation.
The reports therefore suggest that, despite speculation surrounding a possible switch, Nkambadio has not yet taken steps towards representing the African nation.
As things stand, the 23-year-old remains eligible for France, having already represented Les Bleus at several youth levels and at the Olympics, while his international future remains open.
