Julian Alvarez ends difficult spell with first goal of the season for Argentina

Julian Alvarez has taken a significant step towards rediscovering his best form after ending a difficult period with Atletico Madrid by scoring his first goal of the season for Argentina.

The forward struck Argentina’s fifth goal in their 7-0 friendly victory over Burkina Faso, finally finding the net after a frustrating start to the campaign. According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the goal has also helped ease the pressure Alvarez had been carrying while playing for his country.

Alvarez started Argentina’s previous friendly against Bolivia but was unable to contribute to the scoreline. His goal against Burkina Faso therefore represented more than just another entry on the scoresheet, bringing an end to his wait for a goal this season.

The 7-0 victory is expected to give the forward greater confidence as he prepares to return to Atletico Madrid. The goal may also help him recover the sharpness and assurance that have been missing during the opening weeks of the campaign.

Alvarez endured a difficult period after expressing a desire to leave Atletico Madrid during the World Cup. However, he ultimately remained at the club after Atletico rejected Barcelona’s attempt to sign him.

His inability to secure a move was followed by an equally challenging start to the season. Physical problems disrupted his preparations and made it harder for him to regain his competitive rhythm and feel comfortable on the pitch.

The Argentina international has played only 173 minutes so far and has not scored for his club. Although he has provided one assist, his overall performances have also fallen short of the level normally associated with him.

Alvarez’s lack of goals and limited playing time had left him some distance from his usual influence, but his latest contribution for Argentina offers an early indication that he may be beginning to move beyond that period.

The forward will now return to Atletico Madrid with the confidence of having ended his scoring drought, as he looks to translate that improvement into his club football.
