Obed Nkambadio linked with DR Congo switch

Paris FC goalkeeper Obed Nkambadio’s international future has become a subject of speculation, with reports suggesting the France youth international could eventually consider representing DR Congo.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper has represented France extensively at youth level, progressing through the ranks all the way to the Under-21 team. He was also part of the French squad at the 2024 Olympic Games, further underlining his standing within the country’s youth setup.

However, Nkambadio’s situation at club level has changed significantly over the past year, with the goalkeeper losing his position as Paris FC’s first-choice goalkeeper.

The Frenchman was displaced by experienced German goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who joined the club and has continued to command the No.1 spot despite a change in the coaching staff during the summer.

Trapp has maintained his position under new Paris FC manager Liam Rosenior, leaving Nkambadio facing increased competition for regular playing time.

The lack of first-team opportunities has consequently raised questions about what the future could hold for the young goalkeeper, including at international level.

Nkambadio is eligible to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo, making a potential switch of allegiance an option should he decide to pursue a future with the Central African nation.

However, despite reports linking him with DR Congo, no decision has been made by the goalkeeper at this stage.

There have also been no discussions between Nkambadio and DR Congo head coach Sébastien Desabre, while representatives of the Congolese federation have not opened talks with the player or his camp.

That means his international future remains firmly open, with France still an option given his extensive involvement with the country’s youth teams.

Nkambadio’s previous experience with the French national setup, including his participation at the 2024 Olympics, gives him a strong international background. However, his current situation at Paris FC could become an important factor as he considers his next steps.

For DR Congo, the availability of a goalkeeper with experience in the French system and at senior club level could potentially make Nkambadio an attractive option as the national team continues to build its squad.

For now, though, there is no agreement or active negotiation between the player and the Congolese federation.

Nkambadio is therefore expected to concentrate on his club situation while continuing to assess his international options. Whether he remains committed to France or eventually opens the door to DR Congo is a decision that could become clearer as his club and international career develops.
