Cristiano Ronaldo was accompanied by Portugal kit and equipment official Antonio Costa when he unexpectedly left the team’s camp in Copenhagen on Wednesday, according to Record.

The forward departed after a dispute with manager Jorge Jesus, with the Portuguese newspaper reporting that another member of the national team’s backroom staff was immediately instructed to pack his belongings and travel with Ronaldo.

Costa, who is responsible for the team’s clothing and equipment, was the member of staff who followed Ronaldo away from the camp.

Ronaldo left angrily and later explained his decision on social media. He said it came after Jesus’ news conference and a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation.

The 41-year-old added that he was waiting for the right moment to clarify the facts to the Portuguese public and explain why he had left the squad.

Portugal face Norway on Sunday evening in the fourth round of the Nations League. It will be their second match since Ronaldo’s departure.

They beat Denmark 4-2 on Thursday, their first fixture without the captain following the incident in Copenhagen.
