Talk of Wessam Abu Ali returning to Al Ahly during the upcoming winter transfer window has been dismissed by former Al Ahly and Egypt goalkeeper Ahmed Shobier.
The Palestinian striker’s name had resurfaced amid reports that a move back to the Egyptian club could be possible, prompting questions from Al Ahly supporters about whether he might return.
However, Shobier said there was currently no possibility of Abu Ali rejoining Al Ahly under Moroccan manager Hussein Amouta. Writing on the social media platform X, he sought to end speculation over the striker’s future.
“I would stake everything on the fact that the greatest signing Al Ahly have made in recent years among foreign players was Wessam Abu Ali, even though he played for a very short time,” Shobier said.
Abu Ali was praised for his performances across several competitions during his time at the club.
“Wessam Abu Ali was outstanding at the FIFA Club World Cup, outstanding in the African competition, outstanding in the Super Cup, outstanding in the Egypt Cup and outstanding in the league, where he was the top scorer,” Shobier added.
The former goalkeeper said the reports of a possible return had led him to encourage Al Ahly to act quickly if the opportunity arose.
“That is why, when his name was mentioned and people said there was a possibility that he could return to Al Ahly, I told them: if there is any chance of bringing him back, do not delay,” Shobier said.
“But there is no chance of him returning.”
The comments provide a clear response to the growing speculation surrounding the Palestinian forward and indicate that Al Ahly are not currently in a position to bring him back during the next winter transfer window.
