Alejandro Balde remains determined to fight for his future at Barcelona despite a difficult start to the season and speculation that he could reconsider his position in January.

The 22-year-old left-back has played only 12 minutes under Hansi Flick so far, appearing as a late substitute during Barcelona’s La Liga match against Racing at Camp Nou. He was unused in six other league fixtures and in the Champions League meeting with Feyenoord, while he was left out of the squad for the opening game against Elche.

Balde was reportedly informed during the summer that he was unlikely to begin the campaign as a regular starter. Nevertheless, the academy graduate chose to remain at the club, believing he could still earn a meaningful role.

Flick currently views Xavi Espart and Joao Cancelo as stronger options on the left side of defence. The Barcelona coach is said to expect more from Balde and feels the Spain international can raise his performance level.

Despite his limited involvement, Balde has not indicated any desire to leave. He is confident that sustained work in training can change his situation over the coming months.

Barcelona may expect his stance to soften if opportunities remain scarce, but Balde’s priority is to prove himself. He has made 169 senior appearances for the club and is contracted until June 2028.
