Thierry Henry defends Bradley Barcola after slow Liverpool start

Bradley Barcola is still searching for his first goal or assist since joining Liverpool from Paris Saint-Germain in a €140 million summer transfer.

After five appearances without a decisive contribution, the France international has faced immediate pressure, but Thierry Henry believes patience is essential.

Henry points to the challenge of leaving a familiar system. At PSG, Barcola worked within Luis Enrique’s structure, where players understood their responsibilities and combinations. “It is evident that everyone who integrates into Luis Enrique’s system shines,” Henry said, mentioning Barcola alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé and Desire Doue.

The former Arsenal striker also highlighted the cultural adjustment awaiting a player new to England. “He has just arrived in Liverpool; he doesn’t speak English,” Henry explained, noting the Premier League’s different rhythm and intensity. He recalled experiencing similar difficulties before becoming comfortable in the language and dressing room.

Henry accepts that Barcola’s transfer fee has increased expectations, but insists the winger’s pace and one-on-one ability remain dangerous. His main advice is clear: “The only thing he needs to work on is his finishing.” Henry added that Barcola “creates a huge number of chances.”

Liverpool’s meeting with Manchester City could offer Barcola the perfect chance to respond.
