Durban City FC are preparing to renew their pursuit of Marumo Gallants midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo when the transfer window reopens in January 2027.
The 2026 Nedbank Cup champions were unable to complete a deal for Ndlondlo before the start of the 2026/27 season, but have maintained their interest in the player. They had identified the midfielder as a potential addition to their squad while building a team capable of competing in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rather than continue negotiations during the previous transfer window, Durban City FC opted to wait and attempt to secure Ndlondlo on a pre-contract agreement.
His contract with Marumo Gallants expires at the end of the current season, meaning he will be able to negotiate with other clubs when he enters the final six months of his deal.
Ndlondlo has made a subdued start to the campaign in terms of output, having neither scored nor provided an assist for Marumo Gallants. However, he remains an important part of the club’s tactical plans, and his lack of goals and assists has not changed Durban City FC’s view of him.
Durban City FC ready to return with fresh offer
A reliable source told KickOff that Durban City FC intend to make another approach for the midfielder in January.
“Even in their initial meeting, the club told the player not to panic, as they will be coming back to renegotiate for him; figures were discussed, but there was no conclusion,” the source said.
“This is Ndlondlo’s last season at Marumo Gallants; he will be free to sign for a club of his choice since he will be left with less than six months on his contract.”
The initial discussions therefore failed to produce an agreement, but Durban City FC did not abandon their interest. Instead, the club chose to wait until Ndlondlo’s contract situation allows him to speak to potential suitors more freely.
The midfielder will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club of his choice from January, with Durban City FC expected to revisit negotiations at that point.
The KwaZulu-Natal side have been monitoring Ndlondlo since the beginning of the campaign and remain prepared to take a longer-term approach to securing his services.
