Manchester City lodge comprehensive appeal against Premier League disciplinary decision

Manchester City have lodged a comprehensive appeal against the Premier League’s disciplinary decision and reaffirmed their innocence of the allegations made against them.

The club submitted its appeal at 19:00 BST on Thursday, 1 October 2026, one day before the Friday, 2 October deadline.

The case concerns 115 charges brought against Manchester City, including 35 allegations relating to a failure to co-operate with the Premier League’s investigation.

The Premier League previously announced that Manchester City had been found guilty of all charges relating to serious breaches of its financial rules over nine seasons, as well as most of the allegations concerning a lack of co-operation with its investigation between 2009 and 2018.

In a statement, Manchester City said the appeal challenged the opinion reached by the Premier League’s commission in relation to the league’s disciplinary proceedings.

The club said it remained convinced that the decision contained “clear fundamental errors” in its legal reasoning, principles and assessment of the facts, and therefore believed it was unsound.

“Manchester City FC confirms that at 7pm on Thursday 1 October 2026, it lodged a comprehensive appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter,” the club said.

“Manchester City FC maintains its firm position that the opinion is, for multiple reasons, subject to clear fundamental errors of law, principle and fact such that it is unsound.”

The club also rejected the allegations against it and said there was extensive evidence supporting its position throughout the case.

“Manchester City FC confirms its innocence of the charges brought by the Premier League and stresses that there is a comprehensive body of compelling evidence supporting all of its positions in relation to this matter,” the statement added.

Manchester City said it would continue to respect the legal process but warned that it was necessarily limited in what it could say publicly while the proceedings remained ongoing.

“We will continue to respect the legal process and confirm that, by necessity, we are constrained in what further comment we can make until all proceedings have been concluded,” the club said.

The Premier League’s board has said it intends to complete the process as quickly as possible.
