Real Madrid prioritise Mbappe’s fitness for Barcelona showdown
Real Madrid are taking a cautious approach with Kylian Mbappé’s recovery as they look ahead to their highly anticipated El Clasico clash against Barcelona on October 25.
The Spanish giants are reportedly prioritising the France captain’s full recovery and are determined not to rush him back into competitive action before the meeting with their arch-rivals.
According to reports, Real Madrid’s main objective is to have Mbappé fully fit and available for the Clasico, with the club unwilling to take unnecessary risks with the forward’s recovery.
Mbappé, who also has Cameroonian roots is currently recovering from a knee injury sustained while on international duty with France during the latest international break. Medical examinations reportedly revealed an excessive strain in the posterior capsule of his left knee, with his recovery period estimated at between 10 and 14 days.
The injury means Mbappé’s immediate involvement with Real Madrid remains uncertain, although there is optimism that he could return to the squad before the Clasico.
He could potentially be available for the La Liga fixture against Villarreal on October 10, but his availability for that match does not automatically mean he will be selected or given significant minutes.
Real Madrid are understood to be prepared to manage his return carefully, with the Clasico against Barcelona viewed as a key fixture in their planning.
The club’s approach comes as Mbappé has also attracted attention off the pitch after being photographed at a Paris nightclub with his partner, Ester Expósito, during his recovery period.
The images prompted criticism from some Real Madrid supporters, particularly because Mbappé was not completing his rehabilitation programme at the club’s training centre in the same manner as some of his teammates.
However, the situation has not caused concern within the Real Madrid camp. Reports indicate that Mbappé had permission from the club, meaning there is no indication that he breached any instructions regarding his recovery.
With the Clasico still several weeks away, Real Madrid appear determined to give their star forward enough time to recover fully rather than risk aggravating the injury through an early return.
Mbappé has been a key figure for Real Madrid this season, making his fitness particularly important as the club prepares for a demanding period of domestic and European football.
For now, the priority is clear: ensure Mbappé returns at full fitness and is ready to play a major role when Real Madrid face Barcelona on October 25.
