Five Libyan clubs placed under FIFA registration bans

Five Libyan clubs have been placed under registration bans by world football governing body FIFA, preventing them from registering new players while the sanctions remain in force.

The clubs affected are Abou Sleem FC, Al Ahli Musrarati, Al Khoms FC, El Soqour and Gar Younes.

All five have been added to FIFA’s list of clubs currently subject to registration sanctions.

A registration ban means a club is restricted from registering new players during the period specified by FIFA. Such sanctions can affect a club’s ability to strengthen its squad through new signings, including during domestic transfer windows.

The sanctions are separate from a club being suspended from football activities and do not necessarily prevent the teams from continuing to compete in domestic competitions.

FIFA maintains a public list of clubs facing registration sanctions as part of its disciplinary and regulatory framework. Clubs can be placed on the list following disputes or outstanding obligations that result in a ruling requiring action by the club.

For the five Libyan sides, the sanctions add another layer of pressure as they seek to manage their squads without being able to bring in new players until the restrictions are lifted.

The affected clubs are:

  • Abou Sleem FC
  • Al Ahli Musrarati
  • Al Khoms FC
  • El Soqour
  • Gar Younes

The length and specific conditions of each ban are determined by FIFA, with clubs able to have sanctions removed when the relevant requirements are fulfilled.

The latest additions mean the five Libyan clubs are now among the teams listed by FIFA as being under registration sanctions.
