Netherlands hold Greece as Klopp earns first Germany win

The Netherlands came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Greece in the third round of UEFA Nations League Group B fixtures.

Greece appeared on course for a second successive victory after establishing a two-goal lead, but goals from Virgil van Dijk and Tijjani Reijnders secured a point for the Netherlands.

The result kept Greece at the top of Group B on seven points, while the Netherlands moved to five points in second place.

Greece surrender two-goal advantage

Greece took the lead in the 23rd minute when Fotis Ioannidis finished after being set up by Giorgos Masouras.

Ioannidis then returned the favour shortly before half-time, creating the opportunity for Masouras to double Greece’s advantage.

The Netherlands reduced the deficit in the 59th minute. Joey Veerman delivered the cross and Virgil van Dijk met it with a well-placed header to give his side renewed hope.

Reijnders completed the comeback in the closing minutes, beating the Greece goalkeeper with a powerful strike to make it 2-2.

The draw meant Greece remained unbeaten in the group and preserved their position at the summit, while the Netherlands missed the chance to close the gap at the top.

First Germany win under Klopp

In the other Group B match, Germany recorded their first victory under Jurgen Klopp by beating Serbia 2-0.

Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz scored the goals as Germany collected their first three points of the campaign.

Bischof broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with a composed finish past the Serbia goalkeeper.

Germany extended their lead in the 61st minute when Wirtz went past a Serbia defender before placing the ball into the net.

The victory lifted Germany to four points in third place in Group B. Serbia remained bottom of the section without a point.

It was Klopp’s first win as Germany manager, following a draw with the Netherlands in the opening round and defeat by Greece in the second round.
