Portugal FA deny Cristiano Ronaldo retirement and six-month ban

The Portuguese Football Federation has dismissed reports that Cristiano Ronaldo is retiring from international football or has been given a six-month suspension after leaving the national team’s latest camp.

Conflicting reports emerged after tensions between Ronaldo, the federation and manager Jorge Jesus culminated in the Portugal captain leaving the camp and refusing to continue. His departure prompted speculation that he was considering international retirement and could face a lengthy disciplinary punishment.

Ricardo Quaresma, the Portuguese Football Federation’s official spokesman, told Saudi newspaper Al-Mيدان that the claims surrounding Ronaldo’s future were entirely false.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has not told us that he intends to retire from football,” Quaresma said. “What has been reported on this matter is completely untrue, and he can join the national team normally at any time.”

Quaresma also rejected reports that Ronaldo had been suspended for six months because of his decision to leave the camp.

“If he is selected by Jorge Jesus, he will have the right to join the national team squad normally in the coming period,” he added.

The federation’s statement rules out both an international retirement announcement and a six-month suspension, leaving Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus to resolve the dispute ahead of Portugal’s upcoming commitments.
