Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), expressed his desire to witness Algeria hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the near future.

Motsepe, reflecting on the resounding success of the recent edition of the African Nations Championship held in Algeria, hailed it as the best since the inception of the tournament.

He emphasized that CAF doesn’t just wish to see Algeria participate in the championship but also to host the prestigious AFCON itself.

Speaking at a press conference in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, Motsepe stated, “We encourage them to do so; Algeria has a rich history.”

The CAF president’s remarks come amidst growing discussions within the football community about potential hosts for future AFCON tournaments.

Algeria, with its passionate football culture and infrastructure, presents itself as a compelling candidate.

Hosting AFCON would not only showcase Algeria’s capability to organize major sporting events but also provide a significant economic and social boost to the country.

Motsepe’s endorsement of Algeria’s bid to host AFCON aligns with CAF’s mission to promote football development and excellence across the African continent.

As Algeria continues to bask in the success of its recent hosting of the African Nations Championship, the prospect of hosting AFCON stands as a testament to the country’s growing stature in African football.

While no official announcement has been made regarding the host of future AFCON tournaments, Motsepe’s words signal a potential opportunity for Algeria to further solidify its position as a leading football nation on the continent.
