Loïs Openda permanent Lyon transfer in doubt
Loïs Openda has started to rebuild his confidence at Lyon, but a permanent transfer remains difficult to complete.
The Belgian forward has scored twice and provided one assist in nine appearances since arriving from Juventus on loan.
Lyon signed Openda for an estimated €3.5 million loan fee, but the agreement contains no purchase option. Unless circumstances change, the 26-year-old will return to Turin at the end of the season.
The striker’s improved form is encouraging after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign with Juventus, during which he managed only two goals in all competitions. Lyon hoped regular football under Paulo Fonseca would help revive his best level, and early signs suggest that plan is working.
However, the club’s financial position could prevent it from making a permanent offer. Reports indicate that Lyon may struggle to finance both Openda’s transfer fee and salary. Juventus signed him from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to approximately €46 million, meaning any future agreement would require substantial investment.
Juventus are reportedly willing to negotiate a sale but do not favour another loan. They want Openda’s Lyon performances to increase his market value before the summer 2027 window.
