Werder Bremen forward Salim Musah will undergo surgery after suffering a serious muscle injury in his left thigh while training with Germany’s Under-20 team.
The 20-year-old tore a muscle in the back of his thigh, ruling him out for an extended period.
Werder sporting director Clemens Fritz confirmed that the operation is being arranged with the club’s medical department and should take place no later than next week. “Salim will undergo surgery soon. We are currently planning the procedure in consultation with our medical department,” Fritz explained.
Musah now faces a lengthy rehabilitation programme and will not return to the pitch until next year. The setback is particularly disappointing because he had been gradually moving closer to a more regular first-team role.
The young attacker made three substitute appearances during Werder’s opening four Bundesliga matches this season. Those brief outings had offered him an opportunity to gain experience and convince coach Daniel Thioune that he deserved greater involvement.
Instead, his progress has been interrupted just as he was building momentum. Fritz promised that Bremen will give the forward complete support throughout his recovery. “For now, we will fully support him in his recovery,” he said.
Werder will now have to manage its attacking options carefully while Musah focuses on returning safely and rebuilding his fitness.
