Felix Agu set for Werder Bremen comeback test

Felix Agu is set to take another important step toward competitive action when Werder Bremen face Dutch top-flight side Twente Enschede in a private friendly on Friday.

The match has been arranged during the international break to give several players valuable minutes after extended or repeated injury absences.

Werder’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, said: “We expect Felix, Mitch and Niklas to play in the friendly and continue getting closer to Bundesliga level.”

Agu is likely to benefit most from the fixture. The versatile full-back has been sidelined by calf problems and has not played since Werder’s 2-0 friendly victory over VfL Bochum at the end of July. His appearance against Twente would therefore represent a significant milestone in his recovery.

The club will carefully monitor his workload rather than rush him back into competitive football. Agu’s return could eventually strengthen Bremen’s defensive options, but he may need additional training and match minutes before challenging for a starting place.

Mitchell Weiser and Niklas Stark are also expected to feature as they rebuild their fitness. However, Agu remains the main focus, with supporters eager to see him back after a frustrating spell on the sidelines.
