Burkina Faso goalkeeper Herve Koffi doubtful for Argentina friendly
Burkina Faso goalkeeper Herve Koffi is a doubt for the Stallions’ final match of the international break against Argentina on October 4 in Buenos Aires.
The experienced goalkeeper featured in Burkina Faso’s opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, starting against Benin in Ouagadougou in a 1-1 draw before helping the Stallions secure a 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic in Casablanca.
However, concerns have now emerged over Koffi’s fitness ahead of the high-profile friendly against the world champions.
Burkina Faso head coach Amir Abdou stopped short of confirming whether the goalkeeper will be available for the encounter after Wednesday’s training session.
The Comorian coach explained that the medical team will first assess Koffi’s physical condition before a decision is made on his involvement against Argentina.
“As for Hervé, we’ll see where things stand – whether he’s fit or not. We’ll check in with the medical staff before we set off,” Abdou said.
Koffi’s possible absence would be a concern for Burkina Faso, particularly with the Stallions preparing to face an Argentina side boasting significant attacking quality.
The technical team is therefore expected to wait for the results of the medical assessment before determining whether Koffi can take part in the final game of the international window.
A decision on the goalkeeper’s availability is expected after the medical team completes its assessment, with Burkina Faso set to travel to Buenos Aires for the October 4 encounter.
