Al Ahly Keeper El Shenawy resumes training

Al Ahly continued preparations for the return of domestic football on Thursday morning, with goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy returning to training after recovering from the injury that ruled him out of Egypt’s current international camp.

The Red Giants are using the international break to maintain their sharpness ahead of a busy schedule, with a friendly against Misr El-Makasa scheduled for Friday.

Al Ahly had already played one friendly during the break, securing a 4-2 victory over Libyan side Al Ittihad Al-Misrati.

Thursday’s training session began with a technical and tactical lecture from head coach Hussein Ammouta, who addressed the players inside the stadium before overseeing the day’s work.

The players then completed light physical exercises before moving into ball-based technical and tactical drills.

El Shenawy was among the goalkeepers involved in the session after returning from injury. Hamza Alaa, Yassin Abdel Hamid and Mohamed El Sayed also worked individually under the supervision of the goalkeeping coach before joining the ball exercises.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Nabil Kouka, Yasser Ibrahim and Karim El-Debis continued their rehabilitation programmes with the medical staff as they work towards a return to full team training.

Al Ahly will face Petro Asyut in their opening Egypt Capital Cup fixture at Al Salam Stadium on Wednesday, October 7.

The biggest test of the month will then follow on Sunday, October 11, when Al Ahly face traditional rivals Zamalek in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

With the Cairo derby approaching, Ammouta’s technical staff will be hoping to have as many of their key players available as possible, while El Shenawy’s return to training provides an important boost ahead of the demanding run of fixtures.
