Saudi media personality Saud Al-Sarami has tipped United Arab Emirates to win the current Gulf Cup, despite Saudi Arabia preparing to face Qatar in the semi-finals in Jeddah.
The winner of that match will play the victor of the other semi-final between Oman and United Arab Emirates.
Speaking on Al Arabiya FM, Al-Sarami said Saudi Arabia had been caught up in what he described as a media campaign and called for greater protection around the national team before the match.
“Saudi Arabia are being subjected to a media game at the moment,” he said. “I hope our team can be helped by creating the right environment around it and separating it from the heated issues in the 48 hours before the important match.”
He also criticised some media outlets for what he believed was an attempt to undermine the team, while urging public support for the players.
“There are some satellite channels and media organisations trying to destroy our team,” he added. “But we must support all the players so they can overcome the obstacle of Qatar.”
Al-Sarami then identified United Arab Emirates as his leading contender for the trophy, even though Saudi Arabia remain in the competition.
“I believe United Arab Emirates are the leading candidates to win the title because, in my humble opinion, they are the most ready,” he said.
His comments were broadcast during the Al-Arabiya FM programme “Malaeb”, presented by Faisal Al-Jafn, on 1 October 2026.
