PHOTOS: Mali arrive in Tangier ahead of Morocco friendly
Mali have arrived in Tangier ahead of their international friendly against Morocco on Sunday, with the Eagles stepping in after Ghana withdrew from the scheduled fixture.
The Malian delegation reached the Moroccan city on Thursday morning as preparations began for the match at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October 2026.
Mali are expected to hold their first training session in Tangier on Thursday evening as they begin preparations for the meeting with the Atlas Lions.
Mali replace Ghana for Morocco friendly
The fixture was arranged after the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) received a letter from the Ghana Football Association informing it that the Black Stars would not be able to play the friendly as originally planned.
Ghana cited internal reasons for its decision to withdraw from the match, which had been scheduled for the same date and venue.
The FRMF subsequently confirmed Mali as Morocco’s new opponents for Sunday’s international friendly.
Tunisia friendly cancelled
Mali had initially been scheduled to face Tunisia in a friendly on Saturday, but that match was cancelled.
The change to their schedule has now seen the Eagles travel to Tangier, where they will face Morocco as part of their preparations during the international break.
The match will give both African sides an opportunity to assess their squads and preparations ahead of their upcoming international commitments.
