Hamza Abdelkarim named the most shy player at Barcelona

Barcelona defender Gerard Martin has praised Egyptian youngster Hamza Abdelkarim, describing the striker as the “most shy” player in the first-team squad while highlighting his work ethic and potential.

Hamza Abdelkarim has made his first-team debut for Barcelona this season, coming off the bench against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga during the 2026/27 campaign.

Despite his limited involvement so far, the Egyptian forward has made an impression on his teammates, with Gerard Martin offering an insight into his personality during an interview with Catalan newspaper Sport.

Martin was asked to describe some of Barcelona’s newer players based on their most notable characteristics. When the conversation turned to Hamza, the defender singled out the Egyptian’s quiet personality.

“Hamza is the most shy player in Barcelona, but he is very hardworking and dedicated to his work,” Gerard Martin said.

The Barcelona defender went on to praise Hamza’s character, stressing that the young striker has qualities beyond what he has shown on the pitch so far.

“Honestly, he is a truly wonderful person and he also has great potential as a striker,” Martin added.

The comments come at an important stage of Hamza’s development at Barcelona. The Egyptian forward is attempting to establish himself within the first-team setup after making the step up to senior football.

His appearance against Rayo Vallecano marked an important milestone, giving him the opportunity to experience La Liga football alongside some of Barcelona’s established stars.

Barcelona have made an impressive start to the 2026/27 league campaign and currently sit at the top of the La Liga standings with 21 points.

The Catalan giants will return to domestic action after the international break when they face Getafe in the eighth round of the league. The fixture is scheduled for October 10 at 7:30pm Cairo and Mecca time.

With Barcelona competing on several fronts, Hamza will be hoping to earn further opportunities as the season progresses.

For now, however, the Egyptian’s development is attracting attention not only because of his potential as a striker but also because of the impression he has made within the dressing room.

Gerard Martin’s description paints a picture of a young player who remains reserved away from the spotlight while maintaining a strong commitment to his development.

As Hamza continues his adaptation to first-team football at one of Europe’s biggest clubs, Barcelona will be hoping that his potential can eventually translate into a more prominent role in the senior squad.
