Krépin Diatta joins Watford

Senegal international Krépin Diatta has completed a move to Watford, joining the Championship club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with AS Monaco.

The versatile 27-year-old penned a one-year contract that includes an option for an additional season.

Diatta will now continue his career in the English Championship as he looks to begin a new chapter after five years in French football with Monaco.

The Senegalese international arrives at Vicarage Road with considerable European experience, having previously played in Belgium before making the move to France.

Diatta developed his reputation during his time with Club Brugge, where his performances earned him recognition across Europe. He subsequently joined Monaco in 2021 and spent the following seasons with the Ligue 1 side before becoming a free agent this summer.

His ability to operate in different positions is expected to give Watford additional options as the club continues its Championship campaign. Diatta has experience playing in midfield and wider attacking roles, while his international background also adds further experience to the squad.

The Senegalese player was quick to express his excitement after completing the move and said Watford’s project played an important role in his decision.

“I am very happy to join the team. After talking with the people here, the project was very clear in my head. Watford is a top club that were in the Premier League not too long ago, and I think this is the place they should be,” Diatta said.

His comments underline his ambition to help Watford push forward and potentially return to the Premier League.

For Diatta, the move also represents a fresh opportunity after his long spell at Monaco came to an end. Having spent the last five years competing in Ligue 1 and European football, the Senegalese international will now experience English football for the first time at senior level.

Watford will hope his versatility and experience can strengthen their squad during the 2026–27 season, while Diatta will be looking to establish himself quickly and play a significant role in the club’s campaign.

The one-year agreement, with an option to extend for another season, gives both player and club the opportunity to assess the partnership before deciding on a longer-term future.
