The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Carlos Queiroz have mutually agreed to end their association after the Black Stars suffered defeats in the first two rounds of the CAN 2027 qualifiers.
The Portuguese coach’s spell in charge has therefore come to an unexpectedly early end, with results placing his position under immediate pressure. Queiroz had been appointed to bring greater discipline and international experience to the squad.
However, the former Portugal and Egypt manager was unable to survive the team’s disappointing start to the qualifying campaign. Ghana’s losses on matchdays one and two left the side struggling for consistency and raised doubts over the direction of the team.
Queiroz also failed to establish a settled tactical balance or revive Ghana’s winning momentum. His departure leaves the Black Stars facing an uncertain period as they attempt to recover from the setback.
Qualification for CAN 2027 remains possible, but the route has become increasingly difficult. The GFA has already begun working behind the scenes to identify a successor.
The governing body must now appoint a coach quickly, with the new manager expected to restore confidence, re-energise the squad and immediately improve Ghana’s position in the campaign. The GFA is seeking to prevent what would be a historic failure.
