Riyad Mahrez close to Al Shamal move after leaving Al Ahli Saudi

Riyad Mahrez is close to beginning a new chapter in Arab football after reportedly agreeing to join Qatar’s Al Shamal as a free agent.

The Algeria international’s most recent club was Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli Saudi, where he spent three years after moving to the club.

According to Algerian website dzfoot, Al Shamal have reached an agreement with Mahrez over a free transfer. Only minor details remain before the Qatari club can officially announce the signing, the report adds.

Mahrez made a significant impact during his time with Al Ahli Saudi and helped the club win the AFC Champions League Elite title twice in succession.

The 122 appearances he made for Al Ahli Saudi produced 37 goals and 46 assists in all competitions.

Mahrez is currently listed as a free agent, with the proposed move to Al Shamal set to give him the opportunity to continue his career in Qatar.

Al-Shabab are 13th in the Saudi league with three points from five matches.
