Saudi football broadcaster Turki Al-Ajmah says Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the Portugal camp marks the end of the forward’s “historic journey”, following his dispute with manager Jorge Jesus.
Ronaldo left the national team’s camp and travelled to Madrid after clashing with Jesus over the decision not to play him against Norway. The Al Nassr forward had warmed up for an extended period but was not introduced during the match.
The decision intensified tensions between the player and the experienced Portuguese manager. Jesus subsequently said Ronaldo would not alter his philosophy or tactical plans, prompting the Portugal captain to leave the camp.
Speaking to Saudi network Thmanyah, Al-Ajmah said Jesus had made a firm decision despite Ronaldo’s stature.
“It is clear that Jesus is not joking,” he said. “He has taken a strict decision, despite the value of Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Al-Ajmah then used a dramatic comparison to describe the situation, saying Ronaldo’s career had reached its conclusion.
“In some stories, the hero lives, but in Ronaldo’s story, ‘the hero is dead’,” he added. “That is natural for the Don’s story; it had to end this way.”
He concluded: “Ronaldo is a great figure without the slightest doubt, but in my view, this is the end of the historic journey.”
