Egyptian outfit Zamalek postpone board meeting

Zamalek have postponed a board meeting that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening to discuss several matters concerning the club’s football team.

According to reports, the meeting was called off after some members of the Zamalek board became occupied with important meetings related to club affairs.

The meeting has now been postponed several times. It was initially scheduled for last Saturday before being moved to Sunday, only to be delayed again.

One of the key issues awaiting the board’s attention is the transfer of Brazilian winger Juan Bezerra to Emirati club Shabab Al Ahli Dubai.

Zamalek had agreed to the player’s departure after accepting an offer from the UAE side, with Bezerra leaving for Dubai around two weeks ago.

However, the Brazilian subsequently returned to Cairo and issued a statement apologising to Zamalek supporters while asking the club’s management to allow him to complete his move.

Bezerra said he had achieved his objective of helping Zamalek win the Egyptian Premier League title and was seeking permission to leave the club.

The 47 appearances he made for Zamalek last season underline his importance to the team. He accumulated 3,483 minutes on the pitch, scoring eight goals and providing 12 assists.

The Brazilian winger played a significant role in Zamalek’s successful league campaign and also helped the club reach the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The postponed board meeting was expected to formally address and approve the details of Bezerra’s transfer, but that decision will now have to wait until a new meeting is scheduled.

Zamalek’s management is expected to announce the new date for the meeting as the club continues to handle several issues surrounding its football department.
