Cristiano Ronaldo set to leave Portugal camp as Marca reports possible international farewell

Cristiano Ronaldo is preparing to leave Portugal’s training camp, with Spanish newspaper Marca reporting that the captain is waiting for his private plane to take him from Denmark to Madrid.

Ronaldo has missed Portugal’s training session for a third consecutive day, despite manager Jorge Jesus confirming only minutes earlier that the forward would take part.

Marca said the latest development could mark the end of Ronaldo’s career with the Portugal national team.

The situation prompted Pedro Proenca, president of the Portuguese Football Federation, to change his plans and join the senior squad’s camp. Proenca had abandoned plans to attend Portugal Under-21s’ match and returned to Denmark for an urgent meeting with Jesus and Ronaldo.

That meeting took place on Wednesday morning at Portugal’s team hotel in Malmo. It was described as having been conducted in a calm and friendly atmosphere.

However, Ronaldo’s absence from Wednesday’s training session has intensified the dispute surrounding his situation. It came just minutes after Jesus had stated that the player would train with the squad.

Portugal have not yet issued an official explanation for Ronaldo’s failure to attend the session.

Joao Felix was the main development during Portugal’s training on the eve of their meeting with Denmark. Jesus also confirmed that Francisco Conceicao would miss the match.

Portugal are preparing to face Denmark in the third round of the Nations League.
