Klopp rules out interest in possible Liverpool titles from Man City sanctions

Jurgen Klopp says he has no interest in the possibility of former club Liverpool being awarded two additional Premier League titles if Manchester City are punished over the allegations against them.

The Germany manager was asked about the issue at his news conference on Wednesday, ahead of Thursday’s Nations League match against Serbia. Klopp laughed before saying: “Of course I have heard about it, but I have not thought about it very much.”

He added: “I can only wait and see what happens. I have huge respect for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s way of playing football. They played wonderful football and were a top-class opponent for us.”

Manchester City face allegations that could lead to sanctions, potentially affecting the outcome of previous Premier League seasons. Liverpool were title runners-up during Klopp’s time in charge, but the former Reds manager was clear that he is not anticipating any retrospective reward.

“If any sanctions are imposed, it has nothing to do with me, so I will wait and see,” Klopp said. “I am far from preparing to receive a title or anything like that.

“I am absolutely fine with what we achieved at Liverpool. We fought as hard as we could on the pitch. I cannot say any more about this because I do not know the details, and I am not interested in them.”

Klopp, who left Liverpool before taking charge of Germany, is still looking for his first victory as national team manager. He said the side remained at the beginning of a rebuilding process and needed time to develop.

“We will build a team capable of causing problems for every national side,” he said. “We are only at the beginning of this process.

“We are all interested in bringing German football back to where we all want it to be.”
