Morocco striker Yasser Zabiri wins La Liga Young Player of the Month award for September

Moroccan striker Yasser Zabiri has been named the Spanish La Liga Young Player of the Month for September after an impressive run of performances for Racing Santander.

The 21-year-old forward emerged ahead of a strong group of nominees, including Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí, Villarreal’s Alberto Moleiro, Sevilla player Miguel Sierra and Celta Vigo’s Yoel Lago.

Zabiri enjoyed a productive September with Racing Santander, scoring three goals in four league appearances to help establish himself as one of the standout young players in the Spanish top flight.

The award is the first time Zabiri has been recognised as the Spanish League’s Young Player of the Month, underlining the rapid progress he has made since arriving in Spain.

His strong form has also placed him in contention for the league’s top scorer award, with the Moroccan attacker having contributed six goals so far this season.

Zabiri joined Racing Santander at the beginning of the campaign on a one-season loan deal from French club Rennes, and his performances have quickly made him an important attacking option for the Spanish side.

The Moroccan forward is regarded as one of the country’s brightest young talents after playing a key role in Morocco’s historic FIFA U-20 World Cup triumph last year.

Born on February 23, 2005, in Marrakech, Zabiri began his development at the Mohammed VI Football Academy before moving to Ittihad Touarga, where he made his breakthrough in Moroccan football.

His performances soon attracted interest from clubs in Europe, leading to a move to Portuguese side Famalicão in August 2024 for a reported €600,000.

Although opportunities with Famalicão’s first team were initially limited, Zabiri established himself as a prolific scorer at youth international level with Morocco.

He scored 17 goals in 29 appearances for Morocco’s U-20 national team and featured in several continental and regional competitions before helping the country secure the U-20 World Cup title.

His latest individual award in Spain further highlights his development and the growing impact of the young Moroccan striker on the European stage.
