Kaizer Chiefs continue to monitor Lamontville Golden Arrows midfielder Ayabulela Maxwele

Kaizer Chiefs are continuing to track Lamontville Golden Arrows midfielder Ayabulela Maxwele despite the transfer window having closed, with the Soweto club understood to be considering a future move for the 26-year-old.

Amakhosi made only five additions during the latest window, bringing in Thabo Moloisane, Renaldo Leaner, Langelihle Phili, Adolf Bitegeko and Faiz Abrahams.

However, information reaching KickOff indicates that Chiefs remain alert to Maxwele’s situation after previously identifying him as a potential target.

The attacking midfielder has impressed since making his Arrows debut in March 2025. His performances have helped establish his credentials in the top flight, where he has made 47 appearances and scored three goals.

Maxwele was named Man of the Match after producing a standout display in the goalless draw between Lamontville Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs. His showing in that fixture further underlined the interest in his services.

Both Chiefs and Orlando Pirates had previously shown concrete interest in the former Mamelodi Sundowns youth player. A move did not materialise, but the Glamour Boys are understood to have retained an interest in a possible deal at a later date.

Maxwele’s ability to operate in more than one position could add to his appeal. He is primarily comfortable as a central attacking midfielder, but can also play at right-back, giving him the versatility to fit into the Kaizer Chiefs system.

Chiefs face midfield concerns

The club’s need for additional options in midfield has become more apparent after injuries to Lebo Maboe and Thulani Mabaso, while Thabo Cele has also left the team.

Those developments have weakened Chiefs’ depth in central midfield and could increase the importance of recruiting reinforcements in a future window.

Despite their relatively limited activity in the market, Kaizer Chiefs have made a positive start to the season. Amakhosi are fourth in the Betway Premiership table after seven matches.

They are also one of only three teams in the competition yet to suffer defeat this season.

Kaizer Chiefs’ next fixture is against Stellenbosch FC on 17 October.
