Hugo Ekitike targets Liverpool return in December

Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike is aiming to return to competitive action in December as he continues recovering from a serious Achilles injury.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined since rupturing his right Achilles tendon during Liverpool’s match against Paris Saint-Germain on April 14.

The injury ended Ekitike’s season and disrupted his hopes of earning a place in France’s squad for the World Cup in the United States. Before the setback, the striker had been moving closer to Didier Deschamps’ plans.

Ekitike has spent the past several months following a carefully managed rehabilitation programme. He visited France’s Clairefontaine training centre in September before returning to Liverpool to continue his recovery with the club’s medical staff.

He also travelled to the United States recently for an assessment with a specialist. The latest update is encouraging: his rehabilitation is progressing as expected, and he has now started jogging again.

Achilles injuries are notoriously difficult to predict, with recovery depending heavily on how the player responds physically at each stage. Ekitike is targeting a return to team training in November, although Liverpool will not rush him back.

If that timetable remains on course, he could resume competitive football in December. The club will continue monitoring his progress closely before deciding when he is ready for full training and match involvement.
