Giacomo Raspadori ruled out of Italy’s Nations League games against France and Turkey
Giacomo Raspadori will miss Italy’s next two Nations League fixtures against France and Turkey after medical tests confirmed the Atalanta forward is not fit to play.
The Italian Football Federation said Raspadori had been assessed by medical staff before it was decided he would not be ready for either match. He has consequently left the squad and will return to Atalanta to continue his recovery.
“Raspadori underwent medical tests and, after it was confirmed that he was not ready for the upcoming matches, he will return to his club,” the Italian Football Federation said in a statement.
Raspadori will therefore be absent when Italy travel to face France at the Stade de France on Friday. He will also miss the meeting with Turkey in Bologna on 5 October.
The forward did not take part in Italy’s training session and was given complete rest. The rest of the squad returned to work at Coverciano after arriving back from Turkey.
Italy go into the next stage of their Nations League campaign after a convincing 4-1 victory over Turkey in Bursa. The result provided a positive response following concerns about the team’s attacking options.
Italy’s tactical preparations for the game against France have been delayed until Wednesday, with the squad’s immediate focus on the upcoming fixture. Raspadori’s absence leaves Roberto Mancini without another option in an attack that had already been the subject of discussion since the defeat by Belgium.
The emphatic win against Turkey eased some of that pressure, but Italy will now have to prepare for their next fixtures without Raspadori. Mancini is expected to make further changes to his side for the forthcoming match against Turkey in Bologna, with several players who are likely to feature against France potentially being rested.
