Senegalese Football Federation postpones league kick-off to October 17

Senegalese Football Federation has postponed the commencement of the 2026/27 league season due to a busy schedule of international fixtures involving the Teranga Lions.

The league was originally scheduled to kick off on Saturday, October 3, 2026, but the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has moved the opening date to Saturday, October 17.

The decision was taken unanimously by the Federation’s Emergency Committee during a meeting held on Tuesday, September 29, after members reviewed the domestic football calendar alongside the international commitments of the various national teams.

The committee noted that the initial league starting date coincided with several international fixtures, which could have affected clubs preparing for the new campaign and players required for national team duty.

Following the review, the FSF opted to delay the beginning of the championship by two weeks to provide better preparation conditions for players, clubs and the national teams.

The postponement is also intended to create greater harmony between Senegal’s domestic competition calendar and the international football schedule.

Clubs across the Senegalese professional league will now have additional time to complete their preparations before the new campaign officially gets underway on October 17.
