Egypt attacker Emam Ashour escapes injury scare after South Sudan AFCON 2027 qualifier

Egypt attacker Emam Ashour has escaped an injury scare after featuring in the Pharaohs’ Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifier against South Sudan.

Ashour played in Egypt’s second Group B qualifying match, which was staged on an artificial-turf pitch under difficult weather conditions and high temperatures.

The Al Ahly star was involved throughout the encounter but raised concerns after complaining about the condition of the pitch and the amount of effort required to play on the surface.

There were fears that the midfielder could have picked up an injury during the game, but subsequent checks have established that he is in good physical condition.

Ashour is reportedly 100 percent fit and did not suffer any injury during the match or after the final whistle.

The concerns emerged largely because of the demanding conditions in Juba, where the artificial surface combined with the heat to make the contest physically challenging for the players.

Despite the discomfort associated with the pitch, Ashour completed his involvement without sustaining an injury and remains available for Egypt.

The update will come as a relief to both the national team and Al Ahly, with Ashour an important player for club and country.

Egypt will now turn their attention to the remainder of their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign, while Al Ahly will also be keen to have their influential midfielder return to club duties without any physical setback.
